What Would You Do? ( מה אתם הייתם עושים ) A man standing on a city sidewalk is confronted by several police officers patrolling on foot. The situation quickly escalates, and the man is suddenly seized and pulled to the ground, one of the officers holding and pulling him firmly around the neck. You hear the man repeatedly say that he cannot breath, and then watch as he ceases to breath and his body ceases to move. The man has died. What would you do? Would you believe that law enforcement has erred in this situation, and should be held responsible for the death of this man? They have some of the most difficult and stressful jobs in the world. We must, therefore, seek to understand the difficult issues and situations which they face, how they choose to react to them, and the framework within which they operate when something goes wrong, somehow; 4) Both racism and anti-semitism are forms of sinah against which we must stand, as Jews. Let us also remember that we, as Jews, have no one face, physicality, shade, or look. We, too, are impacted by the dynamic of the fallacy of the social construct of race in the American, Israeli, and larger world context. Even if one does not believe that the social construct of race is a factor in any of the above cases, there are many who do...; 5) External pressures increasingly impact issues related to the rule of law and domestic law enforcement for countries around the world. For example, many extremist and terrorist elements are linking into the events in Ferguson as a cover for their own objectives, just as they did in the Middle East during the course of the Arab Spring. Moreover, Iranian officials and Iranian PressTV are currently blaming not only the United States, but also the State of Israel, for the ongoing events in Ferguson. Thus, we encourage our friends, both Jews and Gentiles, to consider the ways in which current debates about the pressures faced by law enforcement and police brutality impact Klal Israel, Eretz Israel, and the larger world in which we live, whatever ones position on the above cases. ~ ISRAELrealNATION
