What a 3 month adventure with the African leg coming to a close! - TopicsExpress

What a 3 month adventure with the African leg coming to a close! Friday and Saturday was hectic and exciting, visiting with our friends for meals, going out to dinner to have chicken and chips, super busy and action packed. Sunday afternoon entailed me going into town to see some of our new friends from Pakistan and India for their weekend cricket match. I had asked many weekends ago if non Asians play (me inquiring for my own benefit) and they responded “no, only us” with the endearing head nod as affirmation. So, I arrived driving Muhammed’s motorcycle and thought today I am going to learn how cricket works by watching with other Asians. Next thing I hear is Latif (Gujarat, India) and Muhammed say “go out on the field.” I still didn’t realize I was going to be playing and thought that I was a ref or something. I then realized as they got up to bat I was playing infield in baseball terms. And, I was pretty dang good heh heh. It has many similarities to baseball; batting, catching, fielding, sprinting etc but still quite different. I batted well too and was pretty pleased with myself. I rec’d nice compliments from my friends and some laughs from the crowd who called me “baseball” and “motorbike” b/c they didn’t know my name. A good weekend to go out on. Our big burden in leaving was saying goodbye to these kids and new friends and truthfully, we held it together well and felt God really helping us in this area. We shared with the kids our intention to be back in July/August and that we cared for them deeply. They said they will pray for our baby and Rachel and our family. They also wrote us a whole little book full of thank yous. The boys thanked me for the movies and stories and the pops I gave a couple for working with me. The girls suggested their own name for our little one. Last night, Rachel wrapped up with her girls reading stories and one little boy said he heard that sometimes “people think there is a baby in there and it turns out to be a sweet potato!” This little boy I thought would know better but he is a gem. The boys, I gave hugs too, they said they would pray that we wouldn’t leave jokingly and said kind kind things to me amidst their fassaing (passing gas) and making fun of each other. We now sit at Entebbe Airport awaiting our plane tonight, thank you for your kind words and doing this alongside with us. What an adventure, but it seems we are only changing locales. Talk to yous stateside.. Karl, Rachel and baby in utero
