What a Waste To burn down waste is equal to a crime as plastics - TopicsExpress

What a Waste To burn down waste is equal to a crime as plastics and some other materials release Cloro-Floro-Carbon (CFC), when burned, which directly damages the Ozone layer. And to dispose-off waste properly in garbage bins in Mussoorie is altogether an indirect offence. Greenery in Mussoorie during monsoon is the greatest godsend when every other color is a vibrant contrast. I could see a group of bright red-black (male) and yellow-black (female) Minivet chirping on the distant Kokaat tree and the handsome blue with black eyeliner Robin shuddered rain drops from its tiny self over the tall deodar while the Raat-ki-Raaniin my lawn conveyed its fragrance. The scattered plastic wrappers, which was flushed down by rain gush over the slope, looked apparent in my green lawn so I went on picking it just to stuff it in the garbage bag only to dispose it in the garbage bin on the road near my place. It is only a foolish notion that the waste would be taken care of properly and I have done my bid rightfully. The truth is, the garbage bins are towed away by Nagar Palika vehicle only to be idiotically dumped at Gaddi-Khana near Library. What an illiterate slap on the majestic face of the Queen of the hills which boasts of a great history. I was called upon by Sanjeev Sharma of NIAR (LBSNAA) at the Indira Bhawan campus for an interaction with the Civil Service Officers from Bangladesh to brief them about the grandeur of Mussoorie. As I walked down towards the campus the sight of Gaddi-Khana appeared as an ugly sore on the face of my beautiful Queen. I was briefing the participants about the glory of Mussoorie in a closed hall, thankfully with no window, and the shameful sight of Gaddi-Khana was only a few meters away on the left side. BrijeshBisht gave me a bottle of mineral water and after the 30 minutes interaction I came out at the corridor. As I gulped the mineral water, I could see the garbage pile acting as a huge glacier only to submerge with the Bhilaru water streams which unites with Aglaar and further ahead with Yamuna. The water from the Bhilaru stream is then pumped up to Gunhillfor the drinking water supply of the town. I shared my concern with Veeru Bhai (VirendraKaintura) over the phone where he agreed with my view and further told me that during the British times there used to be incinerators (garbage burning furnaces) installed separate for hospitals and for civil for proper disposal of waste (Ozone layer issue didn’t rise to today’s magnitude that time). Terms like ‘Incinerator’ and ‘Waste Treatment Plants’ needs to be made aware of at the most preferred and the ‘closest to Capital’ hill station of Uttarakhand. On 15th August 2014, the country celebrated the 67th year of Independence and during the year 2014 Mussoorie becomes a 200 years old splendor. 200 years old and brutalized instead of to dignify. We hoist the tricolor with pride but none seems to uphold the spirit of the Queen of the hills. What a history…what a glory…and what a waste.
