What a busy Saturday! There is so much to do this weekend. I know of several places are having fall festivals and fall-themed events. We’re hosting our annual Trunk or Treat at Life Church Louisville on Sunday afternoon. It’s just a great time to be out of doors and enjoying the changing of the season. This weekend also marks something else taking place in our community and that is the opening of the new Southeast Christian Church Southwest Campus. For my family, this is an answer to many years of prayer. Before you voice your opinions, let me tell you why my wife and I, pastors of a medium size church, located less than two miles from this new campus, are grateful. Take a look around you. Drive down Dixie Hwy. and take it all in. Detour through some of the neighborhoods and see what is going on. There are a lot of great things in our community, but there are also some some not so great things, if we chose to notice them. There is unemployment and poverty. I also see despair and hopelessness in places. It would be much worse if we didn’t have so many of you stepping up to the plate and helping others. No community gives more than this one! That is a fact, just ask the WHAS Crusade for Children. Nevertheless, there are a lot of things a large church can do that smaller churches cannot for a community, as they have more resources and can cast a much wider net. They also do things really well. I have known former Southeast pastors; Bob and Judy Russell, for many years, having been a part Bob’s Pastor’s Mentoring Ministry. They are both sincere and as real as it gets. I have called on Bob many times for counsel and friendship and he always delivers. Today, Southeast continues to be an extension of Bob Russell; ministering, feeding and building people all across the greater Louisville community and around the globe. Dave Stone and Kyle Idleman have done a terrific job moving SCC forward for the next generation. If you don’t have a home church, I would like to encourage you to attend one of their services this weekend at 9:15 or 11:00 am. Get some information, meet Pastor James Hauser, and absorb what they are doing here locally. Perhaps get connected and then involved. I look forward with great anticipation to what Southeast will be in our community. Recently, a local pastor friend asked if I was worried that smaller churches in the area would take a “hit” because of SCC moving into the area. My answer is a firm “no.” I believe this church will be one of many anchors in our community. Holding our community firmly in place, keeping is from drift. I believe when the tide comes in, all of the boats rise. I dont know about you, but I believe it is time for our community to rise. Praying for a wonderful day for Southeast Christian Southwest Campus, as well as the many great churches in our community. To God be the Glory, great things HE has done!
