What a busy day for Gabby! First we went to the MDA clinic and got those cast off! She was very hypersensitive afterward and wanted no one touching her feet/ankles. If you got near them she started to cry :-( After an hour or so we ended up putting socks on her feet and this seemed to calm her down. Just to much touching for her liking. We go back in 2 weeks to visit Dr. Munk. We will decide at that point if we are going to do another 2-3 week casting. Our end result will be to get her new AFOs that she can wear all the time. (this will prevent clubbing of her feet, and contractures of her muscles in her calf/foot) It can be painful but they have Gabbys best interest at heart at all times. She is provided with medication to help assist in keeping her as comfortable as possible. After this we made our annual donation to the Ronald McDonald house in Toledo. We had 4 boxes of pop tabs to donate and a couple bags of snack foods! I always love being able to give back when we get the chance! Then we went to get her back brace fitted. It was a couple hours of cuts and trial of trying it on. She loves it now though and even was giggling tonight when wearing it. This is a massive step forward. Normally her braces take some time to get used to. She is moving forward in leaps and bounds. We ordered some new Gabby type toys this past week. She is starting to understand a lot more. Each of these toys cost between $50- $500. Its crazy how companies can make a $10 toy into a $100 toy. I know each one was picked out by Gabbys therapist and me. Each will benefit her in her own way. Gabby got a grant through the Paulding Co board of DD. We save it till the end of the year because if a massive emergency happens I know that I will be able to have the extra funds available. I also purchased some out of pocket with money that was raised for Gabby a couple months ago. Hopefully I can squeeze in the time to go get Gabbys new glasses ordered. Maybe this time I can get her leave them on?! Always trying to be hopeful. :-) I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. Gabby sure did!
