What a crazy day! Its so cold that polar bears couldve died of exposure and we get 3 snake calls! Enough of that, this post is more about highlighting our shortage of suitable habitat. Its not unusual to get recurring call outs from certain areas, mostly it would be a recurrence of the same species. Featured in this video is the second vine snake from the same bush, in fact from the same branch in a few weeks! Now the experienced guys know that snakes dont move in pairs (particularly not this time of the year!) if there is any fruit involved it has to be apples, ask Eve and I refer to Genesis 3 v 4! It seems that as soon as a snake is removed from the area the next one on the waiting list moves in and takes over that desirable real estate. Over the years Ive learnt that a call from certain homes will virtually be a mamba, or boomslang or Mozambique spitter or forest cobra even heralds and night adders seem to be recurring! One home in the last season produced 4 black mambas and over the years probably in excess of 20 have come from the same property. Recording and checking up on all our removals certain properties stand out above the rest, admittedly some have added benefits like bird cages and feeders, chicken runs, rabbit warrens, fisheries or rats and mice. But most are simply conveniently situated on north facing slopes with immediate access to bush. Is there any of the other catchers that are having similar experience?
