What a day! 4:00P.M. or thereabouts to Antones Record store for Detlef Schmidts book release and signing of Keith Ferguson Texas Blues Bass and getting to hear the Solid Senders. Got my signed copy of the book, listened and left to go home to rest up for the celebration of Austin Blues music at C-Boys Heart and Soul which started at 7:00P.M. At about 11:15P.M. I found myself standing, bass in hand, playing with Jimmie Vaughan on my left, Lewis Cowdrey at the front, David Murray at the right, then Denny Freeman .with Mike Buck keeping us on time with the drums. For you who are not hip to 70s Austin Blues, Jimmie, Lewis, I. and the shade of Freddie Pharaoh Walden (whose seat behind the drums was filled by Mike Buck) were the last version of the Storm to play in July of 1975. And Denny was one of the original members of the band. Many of you less experienced friends will not be able to imagine my feelings until you reach my age and degree of memories, but I could barely play as the waves of goose bumps rolled over me, again and again. We all looked at one another and knew that this was the last time and that we are blessed! Erin Jaimes. Eve Monsees, Nancy Weiss Coplin and Mike Buck did a great job of herding this huge crowd of cats into a wonderful show with the younger generation closing it down as I was leaving. Folks, if you live in or close to Austin, TX and like music you have no idea how lucky you are, so before you fall asleep tonight thank the Lord for this particular blessing. Many times life is just pure FUN and this was one of those times! Dont know why Facebook did not see fit to blue the names I put in, but it did not.
