What a day again on Saturday. It wasnt like we were up against (with all due respect) a Notts County or Port Vale of last season. This was Cardiff City, who, along with already out-played Norwich and Fulham, were rubbing shoulders with the big boys last season. For the majority of the game we made experienced and respected players like Hudson, Connolly, Gunnarsson, Whittingham, Maynard, Pilkington and Jones look like statues. At one point in the first-half I actually found myself feeling sorry for Fabio (Man Utd loanee) due to the public humiliation he was enduring due to Rajiv Van La Parra! Haha. Bless him! From Carl Ikeme (the match-winning save in the last few minutes at 0-0); to the quick, tidy and enterprising intent of Doherty and Golbourne at full-back; the strength and composure of Batth and Stearman at centre-half; the pace, power movement and quality of Sako and Van La Parra in the wide areas (theyll scare any team to death at this level), the pressing and energy of Edwards in the 10 role and the workrate of Dicko pulling their back-line around and creating space for the inside runs..... It was a joy to watch! But special attention has to go to Lee Evans and Kevin McDonald. How we got these two from Newport and Sheff Utd for peanuts was almost criminal, and just proves that you dont need to throw millions around to find quality! From the first minute they controlled the pace of the game, were willing to receive a pass under the heaviest of pressure, and, with class I havent seen since Paul Cook in the mid-90s, they switched play constantly and effortlessly with faultless diagonal balls which, once again, was a joy to behold. Im only 32 years of age, but since I first set foot in the Molineux at the age of 4 Ive never seen a Wolves side play with this swagger and confidence, lets hope it continues for a long while yet. Now, lets get this centre-forward into the club which we desperately need before the end of the window (Glenn Murray please!) and lets see where this crest of a wave will take us! We are wolves!
