What a delightful evening! Linda Newman Jackson was unable to - TopicsExpress

What a delightful evening! Linda Newman Jackson was unable to attend tonights Boise Philharmonic concert, and gave me her ticket. They opened with a boisterous and ebullient rendition of the William Tell overture (Rossini), that had me laughing like a schoolgirl. Conductor Robert Franz was right there with me; he looked like a kid on Christmas morning! Next up, two pieces by Lawrence Dillon. The first was Katabasis, which was somewhat unsettling, but I suppose that was the intent. This was followed by Poke, a Bagatelle on Anti-Social Media, which had the two artists arguing with one another via facebook and texting. Yes, as they played, they used words, and microphones. It was humorous, but I doubt it will stick. The artists are called Low and Lower: Brooks Whitehouse on the cello (low) and Paul Sharpe on the bass (lower). The Dillon was followed by a couple of frothy pieces, (I Am the Very Model of) a Modern Music Genius and Baby got Bouts (I Like Big Bouts and I Cannot Lie...just quoting here!). In case youre wondering, Bouts are those curvy sides to the bass. This is something I learned tonight. After the intermission, the orchestra got down to serious business with the Beethoven Symphony No. 4. Simply lovely! Oh, yes, nothing simple about it, but you know what I mean. Heres a link to the Low & Lower rendition of Modern Music Genius. All you musicians out there will enjoy it, I think. Thank you, Linda, for such a wonderful experience! https://youtube/watch?v=COby7460XkU
