What a fantastic Friday for the Irish at York... The Dermot Weld-trained Pale Mimosa claimed the Group 2 Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Lonsdale Cup at York this afternoon. Having just her third start of the season, Pale Mimosa travelled beautifully in the hands of Pat Smullen taking the lead with over a furlong to run. The 2-1 race favourite repelled the late thrust from the Queens Estimate, who went down fighting by a half a length at the winning line. And who can believe believed Sole Powers blistering speed, weaving through the pack to take the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes. The 11-4 favourite, trained in County Meath by Eddie Lynam, was stuck behind a wall of horses entering the final furlong but Richard Hughes somehow managed to find a way through the pack and he did so in the nick of time - beating Stepper Point by half-a-length.
