What a fuss! One Haridas Pal, named Dina Nath Batra, the head of Shiksha Bacho Andolan of a unknown fringe Hindu right-wing group dealing with education and text books, objected to the pluralistic representation of Hinduism and its references to the esoteric and heterodox practices that constitute the tradition in the book “The Hindus: An Alternative History” by Wendy Doniger and filed a lawsuit against Penguin India which is the publisher of the said book. Doniger is a professor of religion at the University of Chicago. Penguin Books India, a unit of Penguin Random House, settled the issue by signing the agreement that they would withdraw as well as destroy all existing copies of its the book within six months. Why the international publisher like Penguin is so frightened? Do they hear the footsteps of Hindu Communal forces coming to power? Do we hear? Do you hear? Please hear and take appropriate care of it before being too late.
