A low pressure system off the coast of Fraser Island should move slowly to the southeast over the next few days and is likely to be located off the northern New South Wales coast by late Monday. An upper trough over the southeast Queensland is expected to contract off the southeast coast late today, whilst another more significant upper trough is likely to develop over Queensland early next week. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy southeast of about Fraser Island to Goondiwindi with rain areas, easing to showers during the evening. Isolated showers about the remainder of the southeast, extending west to the Maranoa. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds for most of the state, strong and gusty about the southern coasts. Sunday 24 August Isolated showers are expected east of line from about Rockhampton to Mungindi with more frequent, gusty showers about the exposed coast and adjacent inland south of Bundaberg. Possible isolated showers about the east coast of the Peninsula district. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds for most of the state, strong and gusty about the coast south of Sandy Cape. Monday 25 August The high will continue to move very slowly eastwards across the eastern Tasman Sea. An upper trough is expected to develop over Queensland during the day whilst the low pressure system off the southeast Queensland coast is likely to deepen. Isolated showers will continue about the southeast of the state, more frequent and gusty about the exposed parts of the southeast coast south of Sandy Cape and the Border Ranges. Powerful surf conditions are expected to develop about the coast south of Sandy Cape. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Tuesday 26 August The high will continue to remain slow moving in the eastern Tasman Sea, whilst the upper trough over eastern Queensland is expected to intensify. There remains some uncertainty regarding the development of the low off the northern New South Wales coast but it is likely maintain a strong south to southwesterly flow over southeast Queensland. Scattered showers are therefore likely about the exposed southeast coast and the Border Ranges with more isolated showers elsewhere about the far southeast. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny. The powerful surf conditions about the southern coast should gradually ease during the day. Wednesday 27 August The high will continue to remain slow moving close to New Zealand. There remains considerable uncertainty regarding the movement of the low off the northern New South Wales coast but the fresh to strong south to southwest winds are likely to bring at least isolated showers to the far southeast of the state. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny as a ridge extends through the interior. _______________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Mostly sunny.
