What a great weekend of fishing down at Everts Resort on Pool 4 of the Mississippi. I had the opportunity to fish with some high quality river rats including the legend River Dan of River Dans Guide Service. If anyone out there reading this report is interested in an early Spring guided trip for walleye/sauger I HIGHLY recommend connecting with River Dan (Riverdansguideservice). As well, Special Thanks to Kari & Steve at Everts Resort. Their bait store is FULLY stocked with everything you could need for a successful trip on the river. If you book one of their cabins for an extended stay, you wont be disappointed with the cost and quality. The bite was steady once we were able to figure out the pattern. We had our best luck pitching & dragging plastics with a 1/8oz jig head in 5ft-14ft of water after dark for the walleyes and some HUGE pike. The sauger were biting well up by the dam in 32ft-45ft on various presentations. This bite is more of a numbers game, as currently you will have to release a lot of smaller fish, and work for your keepers. My partner for this trip was another HIGH quality angler by the name of Doug Robinson. Doug spends a lot of time on the river, and between fishing with him & River Dan I was able to learn a lot in a short period of time about the ins & outs of Pool 4. Doug had the HOT hand this trip, and I for the most part made a good Net Man in our boat. Our group was rounded out by another solid angler, Donnie Baker. While I have fished with these gentleman all before, this time it was a little different. Perhaps it was because my heart was heavy as we are nearing Christmas, and I am still grieving the loss of my best fishing partner, my father this Spring. The faith and fellowship these men have is something to admire and look up to. I thank each and everyone of you for helping lift me up, and let me be apart of this trip. If you have that open water itch like I do, I suggest a trip down to Pool 4 on those warmer weather days. I am already thinking about the HOT Spring bite of March.
