What a great weekend of football as 110 Offensive OL came out to Duncanville High School which was the most recent location for The Old Coach Linemen Showcase Camp presented by Tony Johnsons Assembly Line Five. Over one hundred linemen participated in the camp with many already holding scholarship offers and other vying for that college attention. Awards were given to the top five participants in camp includingZach Rogers, the Arkansas commit and Rivalss top rated center in the nation. We were very impressed with the turnout and the talent that came out in Duncanville. By far this was the best collection of offensive line talent since teaming up with The Old Coach said Assembly Line founder, Tony Johnson. I thought all the kids worked hard, had some fun and walked away with some information they will put to use in their training. In our opinion, offensive linemen are the most under coached position in all of football and people are taking notice of what we have to offer these athletes at our camp, Johnson continued. This is the third year that Johnson teamed withTheOldCoach. The Duncanville Camp was full of athletes who are starting to receive some attention and many others that will get noticed after the camp evaluations. We had some excellent kids here today, said Johnson The entire staff was blown away by what we saw out of a lot of these kids. And what else can we say about Zach Rogers? said Johnson. We have been working with Zach since he was an eighth grader and this was his first real test after his rehab. Hes one of the best we have ever worked with and barring injury will have a long football career. Rogers, Hebron High, missed his junior season after he suffered a torn ACL. Rogers has been active in offseason for the Hawks and has been released with no restrictions by his orthopedic surgeon. It was great to be out here today and get into some action. Ive been lifting and going through offseason but its always fun to compete, said Rogers. Rogers is a firm Razorback commitment with his bench press over 400 pounds and his squat nearing 500 it appears he has recovered from his injury. Im looking forward to my senior season, ready to get back on the field and in the meantime just trying to get stronger, Rogers said. Ill admit I was a little hesitant to get going but mentally its great to push yourself back into action. In addition to Rogers there were four other linemen recognized for their efforts with Assembly Line Five awards. Award winners included Sean Gill, Mansfield High, who was the MVP in the strong group of centers. Gill was a second team 7-5A All-District player as a junior for the Tigers. I think Sean has all the tools to play at the DI level. Not sure he will stay at center or move to guard but he is an exceptional player who performed well today, Johnson said. He has another year to prove that he belongs at that level and we look forward to watching his progress. Zachary Kinninger, class of 2015, is a 6-foot-5, 310 pound two year starter at tackle for Cy Ranch. Kinniger gives his take on the camp. Kinninger has no offers at this point but will attend some college camps. I thought the camp was great today. There were so many drills and technique work. I was really impressed with some of the other kids who I havent had a chance to see and I believe the drills today will help me with my technique, Kinninger said. Zach Kinninger has a lot of potential, said Coach Johnson. He is a big framed tackle prospect who was able to handle both the speed rush to the outside and was able take his opponent where he needed to him to go. He is one that the big schools are missing out on. Another couple of award winning defensive linemen to keep an eye are Duncanvilles Sami Awad and Josiah Tauaefa, Lake Dallas. Both had great camps and were also voted the tops for their position. Awad started at defensive tackle for the Panthers and garnered honorable mention All-District honors but look for him to have a great his senior season. Sami is one of the hardest workers we have at Duncanville, said Johnson. Hes not undersized at 6-foot-2, 275, and I believe he will start getting some looks after his performance today. Tauaefa, the District 5-4A Defensive MVP for 2013, awed coaches and players with his quickness and raw strength. He also continues a family tradition competing and winning accolades at The Old Coach Camp. His brother, Josh, Lake Dallas and Minnesota signee, won the defensive line MVP back in 2009. Josiah is a competitor and a great football player. He impressed everyone during the one-on-ones but had an exceptional day in all the drills, said Johnson. These Showcase Camps are not just for elite prospects but are designed for the athletes to have fun, improve technique, and for competitors want to go against the best of the best, said The Old Coach. We are looking for those athletes that are being missed and trying to help parents navigate the recruiting process without having to pay someone thousands of dollars for advice or to some company that does combines. This is the sixth season for The Old Coach Camps and in the past some of the top athletes in the state have participated. This is the third year that The Old Coach has teamed with Tony Johnson for the line camps. Jeff Dicus, head coach of the Duncanville Panthers, had several players in attendance and echoed the importance of competition. Coach Dicus dropped by the camp and had this to say. These camps are good for players to attend, to compete and pick up some fundamental work, said Dicus. Tony and his staff do are great job teaching fundamentals and theres not a lot of O-line, D-Line camps. This is an opportunity for players to get in extra work and thats good anytime. The next Old Coach Showcase Line Camp will be held in Abilene in conjunction with Brad and Colt McCoy on June 21st.
