What a joke this whole Pick The Next P.A. Announcer thing thats currently being staged by the Padres is! First of all, what a shame they dismissed a true professional in Frank Anthony. Now, theyre thinking that the fans actually care who the next P.A. Announcer is. I would venture to say that if you asked any of the Padres fans if they would have dismissed Frank it would have been an overwhelming if not unanimous NO!. Now they actually think that the fans truly care who the next P.A. Announcer is and will take the time to cast a vote. In fact, the only people casting votes will probably be the friends and relatives of the candidates. Now heres what the plan is: They have narrowed it down to a Top 30 which includes 27 men and three women. During the first series against Los Angeles (March 30-April 2), each of the Top 30 will have the chance to announce part of a game. Padres fans will then have a say in who moves on. A fan vote online and via social media will run from Friday, April 4 to Monday, April 7 to help narrow down the field from 30 to the Top 10. Those 10 finalists will each announce additional parts of a Padres game between April 11 and April 20 before the pool is narrowed to the Top 3. As their final tryout, each of the three will announce a full game. Petco Park’s next public address announcer will be announced during the series against the San Francisco Giants (April 18-20). Ladies and gentleman, I have looked at the list and there is one person who is truly qualified: Mike Carlucci. His resume as a P.A. Announcer is extensive. He was the P.A. Announcer for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for their 1st 3 seasons. He was the P.A. Announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 10 seasons. He was the Baseball P.A. Announcer at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He was the Hockey P.A. Announcer for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. And he was the P.A. Announcer for the San Diego Gulls for their final 6 seasons. Hes big league and has the resume to prove it. Nobody else on the list can say that. Hey Padres, how about concentrating on putting a good team on the field. Thats all the fans really care about and thats more important to the fans than who the next P.A. Announcer is!
