What a last two days. Yesterday morning our recently turned 13 - TopicsExpress

What a last two days. Yesterday morning our recently turned 13 year old Oso wouldnt do more than a couple of nibbles of his food. My frustration reached a boiling point. The past month has been increasing concern about his eating: fixing all sorts of special meals so hell eat. Hes been getting skinny, too. Karan noticed his gums were pale, so got him to the vet yesterday mid afternoon. Since last March hed gone from 102 to 8o pounds, more than 20% loss of bodyweight! First scary news. Exam didnt pinpoint what was going on, only indicated his days were numbered. Breathing from his waist using his abs to help resting breathing. Decided to bring him home for the night, euthanize this morning. I was filled with haunting doubts. Reconciling knowing the big boy for 13 years of the sweet giant Oso (Spanish for bear). Spent the night with him, sleeping some - his breathing ranged from strained to harsh, drawing my attention to him. Growing wondering if he was going to make it through the night. He did. Gums far more pale this morning. Standing turning to half sitting. A large mass appeared near one rear leg. That night he convinced me he was in far worse shape than day to day living in habit had equipped me to comprehend - and be more responsible for his welfare. Vet noted too his decline in less than a day, also noting hes shutting down faster than thought. Held and comforted by his family he peacefully transitted to the Rainbow Bridge. Yes, I crumbled in tears briefly. Oso was born sweet. Until her sudden death of cancer, he was his blind/deaf sisters guardian, and had become older brother to puppy Coppers growing up. Always ready for fetch, even his meals had to begin with a ritual of fetching a few balls, then when he was ready playing the ball in his food bowl as he ate. Thank you for the blessing you graced us with Oso!
