What a long and exhausting day. If we keep having days like this I may not live to see 47, and thats just 3 days away. We started with PT and amy, the PT, is pleased with Callis progress. Wants her to move more slowly, but thats a refrain Callis heard her whole life I fear. She did amend Callis freedom orders. We can walk the floor but wheelchair outside. Q loves this time because he gets to walk with his girl. She still walks faster than I do. Its like walking with a fast drunk because I need to be there with her for just in case balancing as she goes a bit side to side or backwards. This is something they are not too concerned about The speech therapist was in next. Calli still coughs after swallowing liquids or solids. Prayers that her vocal chords are not adversely affected for a long time because of the breathing tube. We finished a craft today that shed started the other day. Calli designed it and did the work herself except for the actual placement of the twigs in the back and the flowers in the front. Those she would have done too if there werent so many little pieces. She saw a resident from the pulmonary side, her neurosurgeon and NP, a neurologist NP and a Neurologist, a surgical resident and surgeon, and the intensivist from PICU today. They all run her through the same tests. The bottoms of her feet must be sore from all the scratching they do on them. The OT was in and they worked with her Apex braillenote and her Perkins braillewriter. She tried for a nap, but everyone kept coming in at this time. It didnt quite work. Her neurosurgeon came in and cleared her for showering hurrah! Her nurses did an excellent job keeping her clean with the bed baths, but a real shower. It was a long looked for joy. Afterwards was when the surgeons had to look at her chest tube site as one spot got scrubbed a bit too much and they had to decide to suture it again or not. After that, well, well just say that accidentally tumbling head first off the bed onto your head is not the way to help yourself or your mother live a long and healthy life. Finally she was able to rest until Nancy Sheehan came and I ran out of the room to take a break. Whew! Needed to go somewhere else for a bit. They did a different craft and played a game while I de-stressed from the day. Now, hoping for a good nights sleep! Keep Callis voice in your prayers. She loves to sing, I dont want my songbird to be silenced.
