What a lovely day- you felt Spring had finally arrived but alas, - TopicsExpress

What a lovely day- you felt Spring had finally arrived but alas, more rain for tomorrow night. However, I have now got about 3/4 of my many (Im frightened to count) Fuchsias repotted. So thats a big task out of the way. They tell you that if you want to grow Fuchsias for showing you need to give them warmth all winter so I took three into the house this winter, into a room that has enough heating to keep the chill off it. The remainder were divided between the greenhouse with frost proof fleece over them, the cold frame with just thin fleece over them and the ones that were grown in the ground were just left there with fleece over them since the end of January. The results: The ones that were in the house have NO NEW growth, the ones in the greenhouse have a little new growth, the ones in the cold frame have lots of new growth which is slight stretched because of poor light and the best ones are the ones that have been outside all winter with no protection until about the end of January. Bang goes the theory that you need to keep them warm all winter!! But despite the rain and gales we have had an exceptionally mild winter.
