What a lovely update from Alan and Kev who adopted Raffles (ex Cavan Pound) from us last spring. This boy was just SO terrified in the pound and when he first came out of it and it is just fab to see him so settled and happy. Alan and Kev are previous adopters - of the lovely Murt who they lost last Feb - and when I spotted Raffles I immediately thought of them for him. They did experience some behavioural issues at first (essentially a bit of collie-lunging-and-nipping) but theyve worked really hard on it and Raffles is much improved. Says Alan: As you can see, hes the cutest little lad. Hes as bright as a button, and full of beans. He loves playing with toys, and presents them to us endlessly for endless playing indoors. Fortunately very able to distinguish between things hes allowed to chew and other things, so no destruction of household artifacts at all, despite his evident need to keep his little sharp tootheries and jaw well-exercised. And no problem leaving him indoors for several hours either, which is great. With regard to his nipping, hes getting on brilliantly. Hes still a bit nervous when we have visitors come to stay, but hes managing to get through whole weekends of visitors these days (including 4 x family members over Christmas, who stayed for several days), and isnt even trying to nip anyone. We have to keep a close eye on him of course, and avoid his stress triggers. But its all perfectly manageable, and hes a different dog now to the nervous little thing who arrived on 22 March last year. No problems outdoors either, as hes fixated by a ball on a rope, which is like having him on a virtual lead. We can be close to people without him being on a lead, no problem, but we always put him on a lead when children are around or nearby...dont want to take any chances. We love him enormously. Hes such a character, and such a sweetie. And very intelligent, of course. He loves being the centre of attention, and being stroked and handled which is just lovely. Thanks for yet another beautiful boy...were loving having him in our lives.
