What a magnificent worship experience this morning at the 90th - TopicsExpress

What a magnificent worship experience this morning at the 90th anniversary of the Northside Church of the Nazarene, in Chicago. My grandfather, Rev E.W. Tink, a Methodist minister, served this church as interim pastor between 1930-32. This was the formative experience that introduced my father and his two brothers into the strange denomination known at the Church of the Nazarene which they each served in their own ways, so consistently throughout their lives, as musicians, pastors, district superintendent (my uncle Walter) on two Canadian districts and evangelists. I come from such and noble and dedicated heritage. During the service, I shared this part of the churchs history and its consequence in our familys life. I also attended the Vietnamese congregation and discovered that the pastor has been a student of the institution that I now service, Union University of California. I met up with the former pastor Jim Bledsoe and his wife, who forthwith made a contribution for our ministry. This church has nourished many congregations, including Spanish (22 congregations have come out of it), Vietnamese, Arabic (3 congregations), Filipino, Laotian, Korean, and Mongolian. In the church we have participation from several of these, and I chatted with people from Swaziland, South Africa, Belize, Vietnam, Mexico and other cultures. The pastor Rev Charles Peribeau preached a glorious sermon based on the Matt 20 passage of the workers who received igual pay. The not-yet but appointed District Superintendent, Dr Larry and Denise McKain, our dear friends from Kansas City, surprised up with their visit and words of greetings. The congregation, unsolicited by me, sang I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, my dads theme song for his radio and television broadcasts. Obviously, I was much moved. We concluded with a pulled pork buffet of foods, and intense reunions of many from different slices of the churchs history.
