What a narcissist believes: -I am exempt from following the rules. - I dont deserve the consequences to my sin - I can do what I want - I DESERVE the best. (Even though the reality is we deserve the worst.) Pride is the #1 enemy of God, it is believing you can do things without God and its at the root of all sin. Psalm 10:4 explains that the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God. The prideful are always at war with the humble (who are reliant on God for all things.) When you give constructive criticism in love to a prideful person, or call them out on sin--- they instantly put their walls up. They reject it and usually get angry. They live in a state of denial: when that person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. The prideful person may use one of 3 psychological types of denial towards sin: *simple denial* deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether *minimisation* admit the fact but deny its seriousness Or.. *projection* admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility by blaming/projecting onto somebody or something else. The first step to entering into a relationship with God is to denounce all pride and narcissistic thinking. To repent from believing that you can achieve all things in heaven and on earth by yourself. (You admit you cannot live up to any righteous standard on your own.) You gain in humility by following the leading of the Holy spirit and listening to God and his word everyday because he knows more and his ways are right. You yield the control you have of your life over to him, and serve him rather than serve self. This is the life of a true Christian. Anything otherwise has the marks of a false conversion.
