What a night at Iowa! The RUR SpeedCross Series concluded on the high-banked oval as a showdown between three drivers - Joshua Wolf, Leila Wilson, and Lonnie Schouster - commenced. Schouster took the pole but decided to start from the rear, leaving Wilson to slide into the pole position. Wilson would lead the first five laps (earning her single bonus point for leading a lap) before Randall Faulks took the lead on Lap 5. In his first ever SpeedCross Radical race, Faulks was dominant up front, battling Joshua Wolf for the lead for multiple laps. Wolf lost ground on Faulks as Scott Kelly began to creep up from the third position, with everyone else over 5 seconds behind. A late caution would change everything, however, and on the following restart, Kelly would make contact with Steve Conner as they raced hard for position. The contact didnt take either driver out of contention, but Kelly fell back after suffering wheel damage. As Joshua Wolf raced Kelly on the outside, Kelly couldnt pull his Radical down the track any farther, and Wolf banged into the side of Kellys #15, causing both to spin out while the field collided behind them. On the restart that would determine the finish, Faulks took off with Conner in hot pursuit, but Wilson was able to swing back around Conner and take second place. As the white flag came out, another spin towards the back of the pack brought out the yellow and froze the field, giving a deserving Randall Faulks the win. Wilson finished second, and Steve Conner completed the podium in third. Lonnie Schouster was scored fourth and Kelly fifth, with championship hopeful Joshua Wolf crossing the finish line in eight place, two laps down. As it turned out, passing Conner for second place was all Wilson needed to pass Joshua Wolf in the points to win the championship - a single point separated the two from the highest honor! In the closest championship battle Runner-Up Racing has seen in its history, Lonnie Schouster finished third, just 8 points away from winning the title as well. Another memorable SpeedCross season is in the book, with a new champion to boot! RUR wants to sincerely thank everyone who was able to come out and race this season - it couldnt have happened without you!
