What a night last night. Had a lovely dinner here with Mark, Crissy and Mom. Mom & Crissy went down to moms, I had walked down a few minutes earlier to take C dinner and his meds for the evening. Horses doing fine, Hannah looking antsy...on to see C....his feet so swollen so helped him up to get to bed...after much ado he makes it to the bed & by blocking him with my body keep him from falling to the ground...thank goodness my phone was in my pocket so I called Crissy, in 2 minutes she was there...she is STRONG...she took over & we got his torso onto the bed, then lifted his legs up, it took another 30 minutes to get his body on the bed so that he wouldnt roll off. Rails up...covers, comfort...ahhhh, sleep for him. Back into moms(apts are adjoining thru a set of center doors). She is well & happy with Crissy spending the night with her, yeaaa, I get to sleep in my bed! Crissy will be cking on horses but asks as I am going out the door, will you ck them on the way to the house , I say I was planning on it...so off I go, in the starry night, between walking to the pasture gates and trying to see what constellation is directly above...I make my way...then leaning on the cold, rusty pipe fence, I whistle. I can see Cash N and the two moms, across the pasture at the base of the dam, & lo, here comes Squaw, loping to me, belly huge with baby just bouncing & swaying...amazing she didnt tip over...she comes, neighs softly, putting her muzzle directly on my forehead...not her normal howdy...she is normally reserved...so, after kisses, some gentle back and forth horse talk, she turns and throws her head a couple of times...I decide I will walk closer and get a look at Hannah, so thru the lower fence rungs I crawl...then down the hill, thru the draw, past Cash N with Squaw right on my heels...over to Hanna...my love... by golly, she turns her back on me & starts waddling away...ever so gingerly & slowly...I speak to her, calling her back...she slows but keeps moving...then a few steps more, she stops...urinates...copious amounts....more than normal...then begins to move forward again...so I just quietly follow...she gets a burst of speed...goes straight to the base of the next ridge, about 40 steps...then stops dead...lets out a huge, deep breath, a balloon filled with fluid appears ( I dial Crissy and tell her to run, baby coming, then Lynda, then Mark)and grows to the size of a foot ball, only beautifully round...drops still connected by membrane...then...she drops to the ground...here comes hooves, legs, head...Crissy is here, and whoosh, one push, with momma making no sound except for a huge breath...the air chilly, crisp, still...our baby is on the ground!!! Another whoosh, all the placenta is out...a huge gush! I am holding all flashlights...Crissy taking pics, then assisting momma) Placenta intact and beautiful, photo taken for later examination...Membranes are totally intact around baby and oh, Crissy, quick, pull the membrane off his face, the head is down low and the fluid is filling the membrane...Crissy pulls it back, fluid rushes out and the little thing is choking...Crissy clears his muzzle and nostrils...and he gulps air...gulps...hes fine...momma immediately starts nuzzling and cleaning, then she stands to turn around & steps on the placenta then goes down, so hard...is she actually on the babys leg, just a hairs breath away...literally...it hurt, she is breathing hard(we notice later she cut her knee, just a little,& treated it) we stand by quietly....waiting...so is baby. Crissy is able to move our big guy over by straddling him & ever so gently pulling him over...so when Hannah gets up she doesnt step on him...then, shes up...back to cleaning...CashN comes over, momma rotates around baby & gives a couple of well placed kicks, not hitting him, just warning...Cash N decides to stand back to the side & be the proud poppa...lol, Mark has arrived, a jacket in hand for me, bless him, I gladly accept...and Nic & Lynda, to observe and confirm that all is well...I lv to go to make sure stall is ready, move Dolly and her babe to the next stall, add her hay- go shovel the baby stall, bring hay and fill feeder...then cover the floor with bedding...just in time to hear everyone coming up with Hannah and baby...into the stall...thank God for Nic...he always handles the babys as they are tired and sometimes need help getting all the way...he will actually carry them if necessary. Baby and momma fine...into stall, nursing and moving...momma eating like a horse, lol. Birthed at 10 pm, all is well, 12 midnight! Wow, miracles in just 2 hours! To moms for popcorn, visiting and champagne. Sweet bed, sleep by 1:30...great date night!!!!! Love our life! Thank you, God for our many blessings! Overwhelmed with peace and love filling my soul! Have a blessed Sunday, everyone!
