What a pleasure to attend this mornings Service of Remembrance. Sadly there were no WW2 veterans able to attend this year. It was lovely to see the youth of my town represented hundreds strong, in various youth organisations. Scouting and Cadet showing their respect and gratitude. No one wore any underwear on their bonce. I thought of those whose dedications are proudly posted on this page as well as my own family and friends who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. My resolve to take down the hate preachers of Britain First was strengthened. This week they have photo-bombed good people selling poppies on behalf of the Royal British Legion. They have hijacked pictures of Cadet organisations and continued to lie about Muslims. Lets have them gone; For those that went before and for our children. How To Die Dark clouds are smouldering into red While down the craters morning burns. The dying soldier shifts his head To watch the glory that returns; He lifts his fingers toward the skies Where holy brightness breaks in flame; Radiance reflected in his eyes, And on his lips a whispered name. Youd think, to hear some people talk, That lads go West with sobs and curses, And sullen faces white as chalk, Hankering for wreaths and tombs and hearses. But theyve been taught the way to do it Like Christian soldiers; not with haste And shuddering groans; but passing through it With due regard for decent taste. Siegfried Sassoon.
