What a scary, emotional, devastating and uplifting time weve had - TopicsExpress

What a scary, emotional, devastating and uplifting time weve had here over the last few days. To all our wonderful friends and family off the Mountain who have been calling and messaging, thank you, we are fine and our house is also fine. Unfortunately, my inlaws lost their home on Thursday arvo and have come away with only the clothes they were wearing and their 2 cars. Nothing else. My brother in law Michael Malone and my sister Karen were both successful in their efforts to save their own homes. We evacuated my elderly parents from their house yesterday (against their will ) but were able to return them home safely last night. Personally, Im amazed at the courage and dedication shown by St Thomas and St Columbas teachers and staff who put their students first on Thurs arvo and stayed with them to keep them safe, while a number of their homes were burning to the ground and their own families were in danger. The last 2 days has really shown me what a wonderful community we live in. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by so much love and support. Weve already had a number of people drop things to our house for my inlaws - clothes, make-up, vouchers, someone even went out and bought them each a pair of new shoes. Weve had 100s of offers for help and people asking what can we do. Jan, Chris and Pat are holding up so so well considering what they are going through. Their strength and resilience is an inspiration. They have even been offering to help other people in need. If you are one of the kind people that are wondering what you can do for them, i would say at this stage, vouchers. For anywhere. They need everything from clothes to tools and from cook books to toilet brushes. They have absolutely nothing at all. (but if you ask them they will tell you its okay we have a few days worth of clothes now). Thanks for all your support. Its appreciated by everyone. This things not over yet. Theres been choppers bombing like crazy all arvo and more homes under threat. Worse conditions expected tomorrow and Monday. More to come.
