What a strange world of reality, fiction and coincidences! We had a discussion about televised confession and its genealogy in Iran last week in my class. We traversed from USIA newsreels of post-1953 coups staged press criminalization and court reportage of Tudeh leftists to early 70s famous televised confession turned revolutionary speech by Khosrow Golsorkhi to waves of televised confessions of revolutionaries during the post-revolution of 1979. We had yet to travel to post-2009 controversial election to visit a new wave of televised confessions that Maziyar Baharis narrative (one of the victims of 2009-televised confessions and a Newsweek journalist who was released afterward) is now ROSEWATER, a feature film about televised confession with Gael García Bernal!
