What a terribly emotional weekend this has been. I attended the viewing and funeral of 21-year old Cory Scurry RIP We Will Miss You; Corys Mom Belinda Scurry is a good friend of mine and his sister Jessica Scurry is a friend who is also on my Board of Directors for PECC. I sat down in the pew at the church on Saturday just as Garth Brooks The Dance began to play; I could feel my eyes fill with tears (it is one of those songs that always reminds me of Justin). I looked down and brushed the tears from my cheeks, when I looked up, I saw the tears trickeling down the faces around me. Ive seen this pain and devastation way too often over the years. Cory grew up in Orlando, graduated from Boone HS, played sports, loved to hunt and spend time with his friends. I didnt know Cory or his Dad Greg, but the pain on his fathers face and the uncontrollable periods of sobbing that took place, simply broke my heart. I also know that there is going to be a hole in the lives of the many who loved him. Here is what I am going to say and if you are a parent, please relay this story. If you are a young person, listen up. We all have choices that we make and we have to live with the consequences of our decisions; if you choose not to accept those terms, then your loved ones are left to pick up the pieces and go on without you. I ask you...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE think about the choices that you make in your life and the impact of those choices on the lives of those that love you. One minute, one split second decision will have a lifetime of implications. If you witnessed the pain on the faces of this young boys family and friends, you would definitely think twice before you impulsively act or react. Love and prayers to Corys family and friends as they work through a way to go on without him.
