What a truly amazing, poignant, funny, precious day weve had - TopicsExpress

What a truly amazing, poignant, funny, precious day weve had today. The day started with our gathering as a family at the crematorium for a private goodbye to our darling John. We dispensed with the usual floral tributes and instead everyone in turn placed their own floral tribute in honour of John onto his coffin. The box that symbolised death was gently covered from top to toe in a multi-coloured scented blanket. There were tears as we made our final goodbye to Johns mortal remains. Then an amazing Cornish lunch, pasties, saffron buns and a Cornish cream tea plus one or two extras (well, I cant help it, its in the Irish genes!). We then moved on to the Parish Church in Illogan where there was standing room only and more cakes than Tesco Extra and Morrison combined!. When the organ fired up the first hymn and the congregation burst into song the roof (that John had raised so much money to replace) nearly came off. Johns sister Sal read an eye-wateringly beautiful poem. My dad give his own very personal tribute to John followed by our very dear friend and former Rector Mike who gave the address. So many lovely happy memories recalled of a wonderful, faithful man. Laughter rang out around the church time and time again. Three fantastic ladies led the prayers and last of all the Teatime Band rocked the place with Johns choice of funeral hymn - Happy Day by Tim Hughes. So many faces and friends from a very long time ago and more recent times too. Huge thanks to everyone who came, participated, contributed and in any way took part. Today was exactly Johns kind of day. It was amazing, just like him.
