What a way to spend a lunch break - as I sit here pondering the nasty exchange I have had recently with some of our towns people (I really dont think I was nasty - maybe a little sarcastic a couple of times), I am fully prepared, and almost expect, to lose my re-election bid tomorrow. When I think about how nasty people have gotten concerning this town issue surrounding the potential purchase of a town beach, it makes me ask myself if I even want to be associated with a town that can have so much hate hidden within a yes or no vote. I see why our country can be so divided - people set themselves in their opinion, and then tell the other side that they are stupid, or dont know what they are talking about. Why is it that one side has to be right and one wrong. We differ. We all have our reasons for believing what we do. I make my decision based on careful consideration, as I am sure the other side does. I have a strong record of supporting keeping our taxes low, and keeping local government out of peoples lives without negatively impacting health and safety of our residents. When people attack my character, integrity, and intelligence, it gets personal, and as much as I try to remember what my Grandma Carrie used to tell me - patience is the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears. I get defensive. So, if the town thinks I am the right guy for the job, they will re-elect me, and if this 1 issue is the one they use to judge me and what I stand for, then I say good-riddance, I will find some other community things I can help with. Maybe China Maine isnt :The Friendliest Town in Maine. regardless, there will be some healing required, and win or lose, my week will be great because I am surrounded by wonderful friends and family, and China Maine is but a blip on my radar of life.
