What a week 9 in the NFL we just witnessed! Not really many - TopicsExpress

What a week 9 in the NFL we just witnessed! Not really many surprises but several teams solidified themselves as true contenders while others left us scratching our heads in disbelief. Sounds like its time for a Top 5 list!!! 1) Lets start with the obvious: the showdown in Foxboro. Brady vs Manning act 16 once again gave us water cooler moments and lets the whos better debate continue. Manning throws for about 400, Brady wins again. Julian Edelman prives that he is the new Wes Welker and that the Patriots payed the wrong receiver big money. Without question the Patriots have found their stride tinkering with the 50 point margin for the 3rd time in a month. Will a bye week next week ruin momentum before a 5 game stretch against +.500 teams including games at Indy and Lambeau? The Broncos may be feeling ill from todays result but next week they get the Raiders. Crisis averted! Im willing to bet that this loss - coupled with the Patriots attempt to humiliate them with the late game fake punt while winning by 22 - will keep the fires burning until these two meet again in January. 2) One team who continues to impress but has gotten no love in the Top 5 is the Miami Dolphins. Color me impressed not only by shutting out the San Diego Chargers but Ryan Tannahill is proving to be one hell of a field general. Mike Wallace aside, I can see the Tom Brady arguement in regards to doing so much with so little. Unless of course you think Charles Clay, Lamar Miller & Brian Hartline are the new Irving, Emmitt & Whitten. Im not THAT sold on them but at 5-3 they are sneaky good and have quality wins to boot. Watch the Dolphins as a potential wildcard cinderella. 3) Injuries. What a bad time to have a leader go down than week 9. Any injury requiring 4-6 weeks pretty much means you are out until playoffs IF your team can get there without you. While guys like Giovani Bernard and Wes Welker were easily replaced, I have to think the Jets turning to Matt Simms is now Rexs ultimate punishment. To make matters worse, he gets to watch Mark Sanchez lead the Eagles to victory and play very well - all things considered. The injury to Nick Foles could single handedly change the face of the NFC. Can a guy like Sanchez be the hero afterall if he is needed? We may have to find out once and for all if he was a victim of the Jets poor coaching system or really earned being benched for Tim Tebow. 4) San Diego I have to ask, opening drive you go for it on 4th & 1 at the Miami 20? This isnt the 4th quarter down 7...opening possession!!! Why pass up on a chance to put points on the board? Coincidence that you never had another chance to score today? Its a good thing the 49ers decided to let you off the hook and earn this weeks Trojan Enz Boner of the Week Award! I think someones pride and arrogance got in the way on the call to go for it rather than tie the game and go to overtime against the Rams. Yes, the Rams who put it to the Seahawks and play with more heart on defense than most squads in the league. San Fran has been rumored to have many internal issues this season and Coach Harbaughs seat is getting warmer by the minute. Someones arse just caught on fire because every chance to be a hero always provides an opportunity to be a goat. Baaaaaah Coach Harbaugh! Baaaaaaah! Perhaps you should change the plan when your own fans seemed to gasp at the site of going for the win. Those boos after the scrum? Theyre gonna get louder. And you know why...? 5) Because while today proved that the Patriots and Broncos are playing on even ground, the NFC West leading Arizona Cardinals are running away with the division AND could become the 1st team in history to get to play in a Superbowl in their own stadium. Dont give me a Brandon Weeden story because the boys were up 14-0 & I was sure i was going to have to prove why i hadnt been wrong about the Cardinals since week 1. No sirs...the Cardinals are the #1 seed in the west and now own the best record im football through 9 weeks! Stat of the week: The Kansas City Chiefs are the only team in the NFL who has yet to score a TD by a Wide Receiver. Yet they are 5-3 & 1 game behind the Broncos. Fascinating... Honorable Mention: The 4-4 Saints are division leaders?! The Browns are 5-3 & The Raiders ALMOST get a win...almost...
