What a weekend!! It started Friday afternoon with the girls - TopicsExpress

What a weekend!! It started Friday afternoon with the girls coming OUT OF THE KENNEL and running and playing in the back yard followed by sleeping on patio couches or wherever else they CHOSE to lay. They managed to top THAT on Saturday while I was sitting on the back lawn with them for a bit. I was just sitting quietly with them, giving scratches and talking to them quietly when Sam laid down and then as if she did it every day, rolled over on her back and exposed her belly to me for a scratching. I couldnt believe it. She has NEVER done that before. I didnt hesitate to praise her and give her the belly scratching of a lifetime. After a minute or so Ellie started to get a bit impatient with me because Sam was getting most of my attention so like a little copy cat, SHE laid down right next to Sam and exposed her belly too. There I sat scratching both of their bellies, side by side trying to contain my excitement. It also gave me a great opportunity, for the first time, to really inspect their incision areas. Sams has healed really well but I can feel a bit of a lump just underneath, Im assuming that is scar tissue. Ellies looks wonderful except for one tiny little area where the incision seems to have come apart a bit. There was no indication to me that this tiny little area was anything to be concerned about. They both looked fine and for the first time I got to see their cute little X tattoos they received to advise people they are spayed. After a few minutes of belly scratches Ellie got bored so as I continued to scratch Sam, I picked up a toy and shook it at Ellie. I swear Ive done this a hundred times and I dont know why it was different THIS time but Ellie engaged. She bit at it, took hold of one end and proceeded to play tug of war with me. I couldnt believe I was scratching Sams exposed belly with my left hand and playing tug of war with my right hand. In my head I was saying Who ARE THESE DOGS?! lol So Fridays First: Coming out of the kennel. Saturdays First: Belly scratches and playing with the first toy. What could they possibly do on Sunday to top all of that? Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined today, Sunday, would be the day they would not only meet, but LIKE, my dogs and.....they would come inside my house and interact with us and the dogs. It didnt happen immediately, it took some time and a bit of work but it happened. Ellie took to the other dogs quickly and easily but Sam was still very protective at first and very unsure. We had to keep her on a lead for a bit until she relaxed which you can see on the attached video but as I type this, Sam is asleep on my couch next to Ricky. Two more GIGANTIC hurdles for these two are in the books. Theyre moving so quickly now, proving how resilient they are and probably always have been. I couldnt be more pleased with this weekends progress. Thank you, Billy Catching, for pushing them along and for everyone else who have made it possible for these girls to come this far.
