What a wonderful Portuguese class at the Hall this afternoon. Our instructor, Miguel Hughes, arranged for a visit by two very special guests, Catarina Gama and Pedro Bargado . Catarina is the Camoes Institute Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Berkeley, and Pedro Bargado is a Portuguese actor and singer. Pedro is currently a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley working on program for the upcoming Luso-American Educational Foundation Conference on April 24-27 that will focus on the 40th anniversary of Portugals April 25 Carnation Revolution. For more on the Conference see luso-american.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Brochure-FINAL-w-gen.pdf. Pedro led the class today in some exercises to warm up our voices in preparation of some serious Portuguese pronunciation practice, then we launched into some tongue twisters and other drills. We hope to see both Pedro and Catarina back at the Hall soon!
