What a wonderful talk by Judy Wicks last evening -- pretty much a full house (graciously donated for our use by Ann Debevoise). And great conversation after her talk outside in the garden. If any of you that were there would like to share your impressions and thoughts on the subject matter, please do right here! I think we live in a very special place already, but you do wonder how this networking around sustainability works in the urban compact. She made it work in Philadelphia, the key ingredient being (in her words) love. Thats what my mother said was her special ingredient in making the meals we so enjoyed, and its true for the larger picture as well. What is that we love that wed hate to lose? Our woods and fields, clean water, a thriving local community, food we trust from local sources -- does it need to be a much longer list than that? Her book is on sale at Yankee Bookshop, please pick up a copy and give it a read. Its more than restaurants and food, its how a society maintains itself over time -- sustainability.
