What advice do you give for young young people with opera interests? I work with a creative youth ensemble and one of the (early) teenagers said he was interested in opera, but has no idea where/how teenagers get involved in opera.... and frankly neither do I. Kid is a great flute player, has a terrific ear, can compose and improvise, and can certainly hold a tune with his voice and loves using his voice. The ensemble we work with is for kids with challenging backgrounds, so Im sure his family paying for straight up voice lessons is probably out of the question. But are there youth productions/activities/tasters that young people can do? As a flute player he would have so many youth initiative options (everything from youth orchestras with bursaries, to jazz ensembles and the current creative project were doing), but hes a talented kid and has never seen an opera, I want to open music up for him.
