What an AMAZING Acceptance Speech!!! PLEASE give it a listen!!! Tom Douglas is the reason I moved to Nashville in 2007. He met with me one-on-one, on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Northern California Songwriters Association Annual Conference in September 2001, read the lyrics to what I believed were my best three songs (they werent even full demos for him to listen to), and when he was done he sighed. He looked at me with a smile on his face and then read them again, this time more slowly, alternately nodding and shaking his head. And when he was finished he sighed again ... paused ... and then said, Jace ... where have you been? I replied, Right here in the Bay Area. He replied, Man, how soon can you move to Nashville? We NEED lyricists like you! We have tons of musicians and singers, but not enough great lyricists. Jace ... youve mastered the craft of songwriting, and we need you in Nashville. Coming from one of Nashvilles master songwriters I was overwhelmingly humbled by his remarks and told him so. I also explained that there was no way at that time that I could make the move, and he understood. He agreed with me that my family came first and told me to take care of my family and do whatever else was necessary to prepare for eventually moving to Nashville. The next day he saw me in-between seminars at the Conference and asked to talk with me again. Of course, I dropped everything I was planning on doing at that moment and off we went for another private meeting. We discussed a few more things about the music business and he asked me more questions about my songwriting background. I then shared with him some additional lyrics Id brought along with me and, once again, he gave me his highest approval. We finished with his once again encouraging me to make the move to Nashville as soon as I could. That opportunity finally came in the spring of 2007 and Im SO blessed to have the full support of my wife, Kathi, to pursue this incredible journey! I feel so truly blessed that God blessed me with the talent to put pen to paper and create something out of nothing that might, just might, touch the hearts of others, because ultimately the inspiration comes from Him.
