What an absolutely breathtaking morning!! I went out and did my little farm chores, and then came back in and changed Jake and got him a drink. He was playing contentedly, so before the other kids got up, I thought Id go outside and sit on the porch and have my devotions. It was just too beautiful of a morning to have them inside. I made myself a fizzy, got my Bible, and sat on the back porch in my nightgown, accompanied by one very happy Petunia the pig. I chose Psalm 106 this morning. If you havent read Psalm 106 in a while, I suggest it. It starts off talking about the goodness of God. It speaks of the mercies God showed to the children if Israel, and then in verse 7, they remembered not the multitiude of thy mercies... Could not the same be said for America? But in verse 8, it says, Nevertheless he saved them. I loved that. We have fallen short, nevertheless he saved us. It goes on to tell of the wickedness of the people even after he saved them again. They shed innocent blood. They lusted. They worshipped idols. They provoked the anger of God. And then in verse 44, it says again, Nevertheless. What a blessing. How humbling it is to serve a God who is holy and righteous, and yet who reserves for us a nevertheless. That is love. When I finished reading, I thought Id see what Petunia would do if Id sit in the grass. I chose a spot, sat down, and she immediately wagged her tail and ambled her way over. She stood by me and gently nudged my arm with her snout, and then she laid down beside me, as close as she could get. I petted her and talked to her, and she wagged her tail some more. We sat there together, bonding, enjoying the morning for about 10 minutes. I explained to her that I had things to do, and I couldnt spend all morning petting a pig, so I started to get up. She stood up quickly, and nudged me with her snout and tried to pull in my nightgown. She didnt want me to go in yet. Maybe Im a pushover, but I stayed. Thats when I heard the back doorknob wiggle, and pretty soon the door opened and out tumbled Benji and Jake. Benji hollered excitedly, I wanna sit with you! They both ran over and got in my lap. I had my arms around them, giving them their good morning hugs, while Petunia stood there wagging her tail. At that moment, I thought life couldnt possibly get any better. And then it did. The back door opened again and Sam said, Nonnans here and she will take anyone who wants to go. Jake was working on a dirty diaper. Benji was filthy. No one had had breakfast. NEVERTHELESS...Nonnan took them all. :-) She is doing the homeschooling today, and I get the whole day to spend in my nightgown, cleaning house and taking naps. Its an unexpected day off, and I plan to enjoy every second of it. Life is good. *happy sigh*
