What an amazing day! Results a plenty, yet again. Ironman Cairns: Luke Stratford 1.02/4.49/3.17 9.13 2nd 30-34 15th O/A Matt Sheppard 1.00/4.51/3.19 9.16 5th 30-34 18th O/A Rhys Davie 1.04/5.04/3.29 9.44 15th 35-39 Brad Akers 1.07/5.12/3.38 10.05 27th 40-44 Rikki Anderson 1.05/5.27/4.03 10.43 ------3rd 25-29 Jason Dwyer 1.09/5.35/3.53 10.50 Anthony Peridis 1.05/5.47/3.49 10.51 Stewart Neill 1.29/8.12/6.41 16.41 In summary, what a class act by ALL above. Luke & Matt slogged away with the age group leaders all day and both had amazing races lowering their best times by 35+ min. Matt suffered a front wheel puncture late in the ride and rolled safely into T2 to star the run. Both ran until the finish line and finished in the Top 20. Rhys & Brad went about their job to perfection and both also rewarded themselves with their fastest Ironman times to date. Super Effort boys Rikki had a superb day and followed the race plan perfectly. Once again HUGE improvements (40 + min) on her previous Ironmans. To cap this off, Rikki also battled late to reward herself with a podium. Impressive :) Jass goal here was to break the 11hr mark which had been the goal in previous races. A few changes to his program saw his time under that mark. A previous fastest of 11.50, this was one of the standout performances of the day! Anth gets the hard luck story of the day after suffering 2 punctures on the bike. Not willing to throw the towel in, Anth fought on strong all day and rewarded himself with a really solid finish. Credit to you mate! Stew, well this guy did what he came here to do... Make the cut off! Stew works in outback Australia as a on call nurse and his only allows him to train for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of just body maintenance due to the remote location. A long brisk walk enabled the big man to get to that finish and become an IRONMAN for the first time. Not to be outdone by the Ironman Crew, the 70.3s also put in a stella performance. Lisa Marangon 4.32 - 4th Professional Michael Harvey 4.29 - 2nd 25-29 Justin Schweikert 4.49 Zoe Clarke 5.05 - 10th A/G Pip Holland 5.08 - 4th A/G Laura Hale 6.03 Highlights: Pip having her fastest run off the bike by 7min (1.33). Just need to get her bike position sorted now. Zoe coming back from a puncture and running into 10th place with a 1.35. Laura going 19min faster than her previous best at Canberra last year. Next stop.. Sub 6 :) Michael leading for 21k of the 21.1k and just got run down. Lisa going strong ALL day, however was run down by some 70.3 specialists. Great work! Justin producing another Solid race! Super work by everyone! I could not be more proud of everyone above. You did the work and got the rewards you deserved. XC
