What are Chris and Natalie Wallace, FHM In-Country Fondwa Managers, up to this week? Heres a post from Chris... A Haitian Celebration The fourth of October marks the founding of the Sisters of St. Antoine. On Saturday 10/4 we took part in their yearly celebration in Fondwa, Haiti. The party began with a 30-minute trek down the valley to the St. Antoine Church. The church was decorated with exquisite floral arrangements, balloons, and colors throughout. We witnessed a “short” service of 3 hours in which a couple of Sisters took their vows for the first time. The commitment they make means a lifetime of service. It’s exciting to see the Sisters passion for Haiti and their willingness to serve the community. After the church service we returned to the APF Center (our home here in Haiti) to continue with the festivities. The decorations were again bountiful, adorning the dining hall and outdoor spaces. Our eyes quickly wandered to the tables piled high with Haitian delicacies. There was more meat than we’d seen in a month, rice aplenty, fried plantains, Haitian potato salad, and a variety of vegetables and there were several delicious cakes to choose from. Community fellowship flowed with the celebratory champagne and French wine. It felt as if Thanksgiving had arrived early! Our first experience with a Haitian celebration was exciting. It was not confined to the walls of our own home, or even to an extended family. The community of St. Antoine gathered to shared Saturday the Fourth of October together and we felt blessed to join in their festivities. Many blessings from Fondwa, Chris and Natalie Wallace
