What are peoples thoughts on hiring a real estate broker when searching for an apartment in NYC? Theres a very good chance that Ill be soon moving to New York. (More on that soon, if it happens.) But I need to start looking at renting a place there, and Im very unsure about whether to hire a real estate broker, as they charge the renter exorbitant fees (like up to two months rent). Im curious what folks with experience in NYC and the boroughs think about this (and Im definitely open to living outside of Manhattan -- Im intrigued by Astoria, for example, with its Greek influence, though I had friends in Long Island City before, which was quite convenient to Manhattan as well). Also, very curious to hear from anyone who might know of a decent, dog-friendly place to rent (preferably with a washer-dryer in the unit). Please share this with your friends in NYC.
