What are the broad requirements expected from a SASCO SRC - TopicsExpress

What are the broad requirements expected from a SASCO SRC leader? A SASCO SRC deployee should understand the University Policies and be able to apply them under all conditions in which they find their self. This includes an appreciation of the campus. A leader of SASCO should constantly seek to improve his/her capacity to serve the people, he should strive to be always in touch with the students at all times, listern to their views and learn from them, he/she should be accessible and flexible and not arrogate to himself the status of being the source of wisdom. A leader of SASCO should win the confidence of the students in his/her day-to-day work. Where a situation demands, he/she should be firm and have courage to explain and seek to convince others of the correctness of the decision taken by the SRC even if such decisions are unpopular. He/she should not seek to gain cheap popularity by avoiding difficult issues, making false promises or merely pending popular sentiment A leader of SASCO should lead by example. He should be above reproach in his political or social conduct; he/she must act as a role model to students and lead a life that reflects commitment to strategic goals. There are no ready-made leaders. Leaders evolve out of the battle for social transformation. In these battles leaders will stumble and some will fall but the abiding of leadership is to learn from mistakes, to appreciate ones weaknesses and correct them. How do the members, followers, supporters and student populace take charge? The elections of leaders should reside firmly in the hands of students. This can only happen if there is open and frank discussion on issues in formal structures of the movement. Quite and secret lobbying opens the movement to opportunism and even infiltration by people hostile to these views In debating the composition of leadership collectives, we should take in to account factors such as the various historical experience of challenges that face us and those who had fearlessly dedicated their lives to the struggle of making the lives of our students better
