What are we enslaved to? With everything that is going on in the world today I keep asking myself this question. Whether it is wealth or the pressures in our daily everyday living to do well success and prosperity can quickly turn into bondage. Life in Egypt was good. Perhaps it was too good. Happy, well-fed and prosperous, the children of Israel could have easily forgotten about their great spiritual heritage. Kind of like many today. With comforts and luxuries of Egypt, they might have abandoned their aspirations to journey to the promised land. Sometimes we become so bound to the comforts and luxuries of this world that we tend to forget that we need to travel through barren lands to arrive at our destination. Sometimes we become so accustomed to privileges and luxuries and begins to think of those things as necessities. Things that, at one time, we could not afford, and therefore did not worry about, become indispensable. I have recently had to come to terms with that with the house here in Smyrna, Georgia. Yeshua warned us, saying, You cannot serve God and wealth (Matthew 6:24). Matithyah (Mattityahu) meaning gift of YAHWEH [Matthew] 6:19-24 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where your treasure is there will your heart be also. 22 “The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. 23 “But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve YHWH and mammon.” We need to remember that we are not part of this world. It is easy to fall to social allure. We need to stand strong.
