What are your expectations from Modi Govt? A typical journalistic question like this looks like a trap to an avid critic of Modi like me. Come on - I havent accepted him as kind of a leader who can fulfill ANY of rational, secular, humanist expectations of people like me. But of course... 1) I have expectations from this countrys constitutional and democratic institutes that they will not succumb to Modis machination : Opposition shall ensure that parliament functions constitutionally, they oppose & expose every damaging move of this man. Law & Order institutes dont become Modis henchmen and Judiciary become the deterrent of wrong-doings, provide justice, protect human rights and become the strongest pillar of democracy for us. 2) I have expectations from Media that they dont sell their conscience for money and to be in good books of establishment : Though this is too much to expect from media owners, I stay hopeful about some small publications and a lot of journalists & columnists who keep providing insightful, explosive, fearless news and views. 3) Also, I have expectations from civic groups like NGOs, activists, scholars, artists and public intellectuals : I hope that they work more cohesively and determinedly in explaining whats wrong in this seemingly Achhe Din and bringing sense to widespread nonsense in society.
