Public clinics and hospitals, especially in far-flung towns, suffer from the lack of full-time health workers. Yet there are enough nursing graduates each year to meet the demand—if most of them didn’t decide to seek work abroad." "Nurses continue to leave the country in large numbers, surpassed only by household service workers. From 2008 to 2012, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, 69,428 nurses found new jobs abroad. That’s an average of 13,896 each year—as many as 38, on average, leaving every day." "So many nurses in the Philippines, yes; many of them just aren’t in the communities that need them most. But who can blame them? Basic pay for nurses in Saudi Arabia started at P47,000 a month last year.
