What can I say about a city I grew up in? Detroit is ravaged, - TopicsExpress

What can I say about a city I grew up in? Detroit is ravaged, blighted, and devastatingly sad. I made my annual sojourn to the house I grew up in. Felt kicked in the gut. Burnt out attic, charred scars on the front porch where I once played hopscotch with friends. This was a gorgeous neighborhood, between 6 and 7 Mile Road, with homes all built in the early 20th Century. My dad took us on a tour along Woodward Avenue to the Grand Boulevard where all the richest Detroiters, including the Mayor, used to live and its all falling down. Every other house is boarded up or razed. A tree growing up through the rubble. Detroit looks like a third world country, or post natural disaster field of devastation. Its gotten worse in one year. Yes, its great the Detroit Institute of Art just got foundation support and doesnt need to farm out their masterpieces to save this city, and there is hope in new pockets, (Downtown, the Eastern Market,) but there is an overwhelming amount of work to be done to bring this Paris of the Midwest back to life.
