What can I say about the Great Pyrenees? First off these are big beautiful white dogs, males can get up to 120lbs females 90lbs. So be sure you have space if your thinking of getting one. They were believed to be bred in Asia and to have migrated to Europe about 5000 yrs ago. Used in the Pyrenees mountains for guarding sheep they are great guard dogs very affectionate and good with kids. King Louis the 14th proclaimed them the royal dog of France in 1675. Loyal, protective, independent and laid back these dogs may be hard to train and need lots of grooming. Often having a tendency to wander they are best kept on a leash and in a fenced yard.
