What do I have in common with the X-men or TMNT ? I am a MUTANT and like them, Ive decided to band with others like me and use our powers for good. Im not sure if being the recipient of a genetic mutation that resulted in five cancers and a brain tumor is equally as cool as being able to read peoples minds, fly, control the weather, etc. BUT mutanthood has uncannily changed my life in a positive way. Together with my sister and a motley band of mutants we are proud and honored to have as friends, we live life to the fullest despite having Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS). LFS is an extremely rare genetic disorder characterized by a mutation in the tumor suppressor gene (p53), thus making mutants like us prone to developing multiple cancers. Having my mutant family to help me navigate Living with LFS has been an invaluable source of support, emotionally rewarding, and a life altering/sustaining experience. Upon the realization that most mutants do not have much of a support system, we have decided to pay it forward by forming an organization called LivingLFS. I am pleased to announce our very first LivingLFS fundraiser: Have You Hugged a MUTANT Today? The proceeds will go directly towards funding next months Mutant Meeting in Portland, OR during which we will hug as many Mutants as possible as we connect them to each other and additional sources of emotional and financial support. https://booster/livinglfs
