What do I think about at 6am?! Bottle propping. Why do parents do it? Do they not know the dangers? Or do they just not care? Ive been seeing it more and more lately and so want to scream and pass out pamphlets. I myself have been guilty of this, but more so on long car rides when I was driving and Alithea or Destynee were starving. But then I learned the dangers, and I stopped. So why is bottle propping bad? It can cause emotional detachment. Feeding your child, breast feeding or bottle feeding, creates an emotional connection, a bond, a trust relationship. Bottle propping doesnt do any of that, infact it increases the risk for psychological issues later. It can also cause ear infections because when you bottle prop your childs head is not pro pally supported causing fluid to sit in their ears increasing the chance of ear infections. Bottle propping can cause tooth decay (much like a milk bottle at bed time) because when your child falls asleep drinking, the milk sits in their mouth and eats away at their tiny little gums and teeth. AND most important (and obvious), bottle propping can cause your child to choke to death and die! No explanation needed. Having a child is never convenient, they arent going to fill some void, they arent here to love you unconditionally. Thats your job. Being a parent is work, HARD work!
