What do Shirley Manson of Garbage, Peter Buck of REM, Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains, and Jon Bon Jovi have in common? Theyve all ordered #wine from Joey Lopaka, the current Lead Sommelier at The Herbfarm (the only AAA 5 Diamond restaurant in Washington state) and our Sommelier of the week! Joey Lopaka grew up the grandson of a pioneering hotelier in Hawaii, and while living in hotels didnt expose him to cooking or cleaning, it did expose him to the finer things in life. Sips of wine here and there were “acceptable” for this child of the 70s and it awakened an early affection for his familys beverage of choice which would become a lifelong passion. After brief careers in sports and music, Joey committed himself to learning all things beverage, earning certifications from the American Sommelier Association and the The Court Of Master Sommeliers, where he now is working on his Advanced Certification. His curiosity and wanderlust has kept him moving, leading him to stints in Seattle, the Hamptons, Dublin, Stowe, Orlando, Aspen, and Park City before returning to the Seattle area to head up the wine program at The Herbfarm.
