What do YOU think? For the last 15 years we have always gone to at least 2 Congregations at a time. Part of that is that we had so many challenges getting accommodations for family members with disabilities that we had to do a little here, a little there. Sometimes we had to leave congregations when the refusals to serve a family member with a disability were just too much to bear. Weve ALWAYS been welcomed by Chabad and have been involved with them consistently. But they dont have services every week, or the same sort of religious schools, to fund. They tend to work out of their houses, which are warm and wonderful. But we did find a wonderfully accommodating and inclusive Reform congregation -- Temple Beth Ami. We have been members for 5 years. But yes, dues are REALLY expensive. They are far from our home and we now only go for some of the high holiday services as for everything else we are at Chabad. Frankly, as a full time volunteer, I dont have an income now like before, so I do really notice the dues. I just sent a donation to the our Reform Congregation -- which can be done with tax deductible money. I did not send in the dues yet. Id much rather donate than have dues. We are no longer using the services of the Congregation , but I want to support a congregation that welcomes people of ALL abilities fully. What do you think about dues v. donations?
