What do my friends think of this No Gender December concept that is being bandied around on the news and in social media? Below is my comment on a thread about it - copied and pasted here I think its ridiculous, it all comes down to the parenting really. Yes girls can play with trucks etc and boys can play with dolls, that is fine and most people these days agree that its fine. The whole idea of this No Gender December is just a waste of time and money. Having seperate boy/girl aisles in stores allows for quicker shopping if you are looking for specific things. My sister is almost 50, and even our mother knew to shop in the boy section for her lol. Such a waste of valuable attention and effort that would be better spent on real issues such as child abuse. As for the claims that the Greens stated gender specific toys lead to DV - has anyone actually got proof that that particular quote is real? So far I have seen footage of words on this topic from the Greens, but not this actual statement. Whether or not it was said, it is a totally ridiculous and groundless statement - again - it comes down to parenting and the environment in which children are raised, not the toys they play with. Shoot me down in flames if you like, this is my opinion on it, interested in seeing what others think and why they think that...........
